The legal window to remove bats is open now and closes April 15.
Florida wildlife rules 68A-4.001 and 68A-9.010 prohibit bat exclusion during maternity season, April 16 through August 14, because flightless pups are in the roost. Exclusion is only legal from August 15 through April 15. That window is open right now. If your colony is not excluded before April 15, the work is off the table until the following August, and the colony grows through the summer.

What you are probably hearing.
Most calls start with a noise at dusk. Here is what points to a bat colony rather than rodents or birds.
Scratching or chirping around dusk
High, squeaky chatter and scrabbling that starts as the sun goes down and again before dawn.
Dark, greasy stains at roofline gaps
Body oil rubs off at the entry point. Look at soffit seams, fascia gaps, ridge vents, and tile edges.
Droppings, called guano, piling up
Dark pellets in the attic, on insulation, down exterior walls, or on a porch directly under a gap.
A sharp ammonia smell
Accumulated urine and guano produce a strong ammonia odor that gets worse in Florida heat and humidity.
A bat inside a living space
One bat in a bedroom or hallway usually means a roost somewhere in the structure. Do not handle it. Call us.
Bats streaming out at sunset
Stand outside at dusk and watch the roofline. A steady exit flight is the clearest confirmation of a colony.

Guano is a respiratory hazard
Bat droppings can host the fungus that causes histoplasmosis, a lung infection you catch by breathing disturbed dust. Sweeping an attic without containment and respiratory protection puts that dust into the air you breathe.
Bats are protected in Florida
Killing or harming bats is illegal in Florida, and exclusion is restricted to the August 15 through April 15 window. Poisons and traps are not legal options. Doing it wrong exposes you to enforcement action.
Sealing them in kills them
Caulking the entry while bats are inside traps the colony in your walls. They die there, and you are left with carcasses, odor, and insects in a cavity you now have to open up.

Bat removal FAQ.
How much does bat removal cost?
It depends on the size of the structure, how many entry points there are, how high the roofline is, and how much guano has to be removed. That is why the inspection is free: we look first, then give you a written price before any work starts. Anyone quoting a bat job over the phone without seeing the building is guessing.
How long does the whole process take?
Exclusion is not a one visit job. The one way devices have to stay up long enough for every bat to leave on its own, then we return to seal and clean. Expect the process to run over multiple visits across a period of days to weeks, depending on colony size and weather. We give you the schedule at the inspection.
Is this safe for the bats?
Yes. Exclusion is humane by design. No bat is trapped, poisoned, or handled. They fly out on their own to feed, the one way device stops them coming back, and they relocate to a natural roost. Bats eat enormous numbers of mosquitoes and other insects, so the goal is to move them off your building, not to harm them.
Why can you not remove bats in the summer?
April 16 through August 14 is maternity season in Florida. Pups in the roost cannot fly yet. If the adults were excluded, the pups would be sealed inside and would die. Florida rules 68A-4.001 and 68A-9.010 prohibit exclusion during that period for exactly that reason. Legal exclusion runs August 15 through April 15, which is the window we are in now.
Do you clean up the guano?
Yes. Guano removal and decontamination are part of the job, not an afterthought. Droppings and urine soak into insulation and framing, carry an ammonia odor, and can host the fungus behind histoplasmosis. We remove the contaminated material and treat the space rather than just sealing over it.
Do you guarantee they will not come back?
The permanent seal is the whole point of the work, and it is backed by a warranty that we put in writing before the job starts. Bats return to the same roost year after year, so the sealing step is where a bat job succeeds or fails. Ask about the warranty terms at your inspection.
A bat got into the house. What do I do right now?
Do not touch it and do not let pets near it. Close the interior doors to confine it to one room, open an exterior window or door in that room, turn off the lights, and give it a chance to leave. If anyone was bitten or scratched, or if a bat was in a room with a sleeping person or a small child, contact your doctor or the county health department. Then call us so we can find how it got in.
